Halloween Fun...

Halloween is one of those days that has always filled me with mixed emotions. As a child, I absolutely loved the dressing up part of the holiday and getting candy. Who wouldn't love the candy? The night always began at my Pop and Granny's with cousins, Danielle and David. They would have to be the first to see our costume creations and we would have to be the first to receive Granny's famous popcorn balls. (the idea that she gave out homemade treats is crazy now days, who would let their children eat something not sealed in a tight wrapper?) However, Halloween also made me face one of my biggest fears...the DARK! Everyone knows I am a scaredy cat. I would never go anywhere alone in the dark as a kid, not even to my own bedroom to sleep! Granny had this awesome tape she and my Big Unc made with scarey music mixed with them make spooky sounds. She loved to put on her witches hat and would push play on the tape player as the children started up the porch. This was all fun as long as I was inside and not the one walking up to doors in the dark while people were dressed up actually trying to scare one another. This was a strange concept to me, one that was not fun in anyway. BUT, I knew I would get candy if I could just endure it on this one night. So, of course, I did it for the sugar! Now, the churches have come up with this wonderful idea of trunk or treat! We had the best time with you girls at our church this year. Daddy took his motorcycle again and gave out candy from the saddlebags. This year was extra special because Mimi and Granddaddy got to come with us. I could see you guys loved showing off your costumes to them as much as I used to with my grandparents. It was great to share the evening with our friends and church family. Not only did you get to trick or treat with all your friends in a nonspooky environment, you created yet another memory of fun times at church. Daddy and I enjoyed watching you sort through your candy the next morning getting so excited with every piece. Daddy helped you combine your buckets and sorted it all into a chocolate bucket, candy bucket and toy bucket (he thinks I am the OCD one!) Little Adelynn was really good during the whole evening, sleeping through most of it never knowing mom had her dressed up in an adorable pumpkin costume. Anna Grace wanted to make sure she didn't miss walking in our neighborhood in the dark to trick or treat too. You said that was what you read in books that you were supposed to do at Halloween. So, when we left church Daddy and Granddaddy took you big girls to a few houses while Mommy and Mimi bathed sweet baby Adelynn. Thanks, precious girls, for creating such special memories for us.
